Kurzinhalt (Deutsch)

Im Mittelpunkt des Films steht der Dokumentarfilm "Spanische Erde" von Joris Ivens (Regie) und Ernest Hemingway (Text), der 1937 hergestellt wurde und vom Leben und Kampf des spanischen Volkes während des spanischen Krieges 1936 erzählt. In einem Prolog werden die Vorgeschichte und die Hintergründe dieses Krieges gezeigt. Es wird nachgewiesen, dass die Franco-Diktatur nur durch die Unterstützung durch Hitler und Mussolini und durch die Politik der "Nichteinmischung" der Westmächte siegen konnte.

Ein Epilog zeigt, dass das spanische Volk weiterhin unter den gleichen Ausbeutern zu leben hat und gegen sie kämpft. Die Erhaltung des Franco-Regimes ist nur durch die Unterstüzung der USA und die westdeutschen Monopole möglich.

Basing their work on the 1937's "The Spanish Earth" Joris IVens film made with the help of Ernest Hemingway and others, Kurt and Jeanne Stern used Hanns Eisler's music and John Heartfield's photo montages to make a new epilogue and prologue for the film.

The images show the hard life of the peasants, now as landowners. To defend what they had just managed to acquire, they join the militias who, with support from the regular republican troops and volunteers from all over the world, fight against the Franco group. The new materials seeks to show how the West sought to convert Franco into an ally during the Cold War, in addition to the constant opposition in Spain thorugh strikes and demonstrations.

Sobre la base de "The Spanish Earth", película de Joris Ivens rodada en 1937 con la colaboraión de Ernest Hemingway y otros, Kurt y Jeanne Stern utilizaron música de Hanns Eisler y fotomontajes de John Heartfield para el nuevo epílogo y prólogo de la pélícula. Las imágenes muestran la dura vida de los campensinos, convertidos ahora en duenos de las tierras. Para defender lo que acaban de conseguier, se incorporan a las milicias que, con el apoyo de tropas regulares republicanas y voluntarios del todo el mundo, luchan contra los golpistas de Franco. El nuevo material quiere mostrar cómo Occidente trató de convertir a Franco en su aliado durante la Guerra Fría, pero también la actuación constante de la oposición en Espana a través de huelgas y manifestaciones.
